Romancing with nature is what NIFT graduatePriyanjali did at her show on day four. She set the ramp on fire with a riot of hot vibrant colours.
Rustic elegance of fall colours and leafy textures set the mood for her formal-sporty collection. The silhouettes were clean, straight and non-fussy. It surely made the collection look formal, yet minimalist and high on commercial viability.
The motifs were essentially inspired bythe maple leaves. And the texture looked like that of fallen leaves piling on the forest floor and to achieve that she did layering of different techniques like printing, stitching, embroidery and appliquéing in her signature style.
She used rich fabrics like south silks, Banares brocades and taffeta in tangerine, dusty orange, rust, ochre and burgundy shades.
We saw a marriage of Indian craftsmanship and contemporary styling in Jodhpur-style churidars. These were teamed with jackets and long shirts, blouses with leg-o-mutton sleeves and waist coats all hand-crafted with appliqué work and subtle thread embroideries. Spotted in the front row were special invitees like the classical dancer Raja Reddy.
